How can I apply for a student visa?
You need to submit your application through the VFS Global website. The school can assist you in this process. The submission cost is €100 or €150 (appointment fee) plus VFS administration fees which must be paid upon submission of documentation.
How long does it take to process a student visa for Malta?
Processing time varies but generally takes 4 to 8 weeks. It is advised to apply well in advance of your course start date.
Can I work with a student visa?
Students from non-EU countries studying in Malta can work part-time (up to 20 hours per week) if they obtain an Employment Licence from Jobsplus. The employer must submit the application along with required documents. The application status can be tracked via the employer’s online portal and once approved, the employment must be registered with Jobsplus. Employers are responsible for ensuring the licence remains valid. If not renewed, employment must be terminated. These students are entitled to the same working conditions as Maltese/EU nationals.
What documents are required for the student visa application?
Commonly required documents include:
- Completed visa application form, signed by the applicant
- Letter of acceptance from Berlitz | English Language Academy
- Proof of accommodation in Malta
- Valid passport
- Recent passport-sized photos (according to ICAO Standards)
- Proof of sufficient funds (bank statements of the last 3 months with a recent bank certificate) and International Bank card corresponding to the statements provided
- Medical and Travel Insurance
- Flight itinerary
- Visa application fee payment receipt
If student is sponsored, students must present:
- The Sponsor’s Bank Statement (last 3 months)
- A Signed Declaration letter from sponsor
- A Copy of identification of sponsor (front and back)
In case of minors, the following documents are also required:
- Birth certificate (original and translated in English by an official translator)
- A copy of parents’ passport
- Parents’ consent letter (original and translated in English)
Is health insurance mandatory for a Malta study visa?
Yes, valid health insurance covering your stay in Malta is required, starting from first point of entry in Schengen area and ending upon exit from Schengen area.
Is Skills Pass mandatory for a student visa?
The Skills Pass is not mandatory for obtaining a student visa but may be required for employment in the Hospitality & Tourism sectors in Malta.
Can my family accompany me while I study in Malta?
Only one parent accompanying a minor during their studies may apply for an ‘Accompanying Family Member’ visa. Children accompanying their parents may choose to follow a course and apply for a student visa via the extended service prior to arrival.
Do I need to provide bank statements to demonstrate I have sufficient funds?
Yes, you must provide proof of financial stability to support your stay in Malta. This is usually done through recent bank statements.
