Meet Marcel Meadly a dedicated English language
teacher who has been with Berlitz English Language
Academy for over 10 years!
What drew you to teaching English as a second language (ESL)? |
As I always wanted to be a teacher and had taught my children when I travelled with my husband, I thought it would be a good idea to help other students too. |
What’s your approach to creating a positive and effective learning environment for your students? |
In my approach to creating a positive and effective learning environment I try to make use of my own strengths and skills. Amongst all of the things a teacher should have, patience, in my opinion, is the most important. By making sure that the students understand and leave the classroom feeling like they learnt something. |
How do you think the Berlitz method benefits students learning English, compared to other approaches? |
The Berlitz method encourages and helps students speak more in the classroom. The students try to engage in roleplays by reusing and creating different situations related to the topic. |
What do you love most about teaching at Berlitz| ELA school specifically? |
I really like my colleagues and also the atmosphere in the school. Everyone tries to help one another. |
How does the school’s environment or culture help you as a teacher to thrive? |
As I said before, everyone is so helpful. In my opinion, being in a small team is a big plus as we all get along really well. |
What do you think sets Berlitz | ELA apart from other language schools? |
With it being the only school in Malta that uses the Berlitz method it makes us stand out from all of the other language schools, so the students know what they are getting from the courses they book. |
Can you share any success stories of students who have made remarkable progress? |
Although I didn’t teach this particular student a Berlitz course, as she was enrolled in an exam course, getting the mark she needed after tackling several obstacles was a great success for me, herself and the school in general. |
What’s the most challenging part of teaching English, and how do you overcome it? |
As I teach more exam courses, the most challenging part would be for me to help the students acquire the necessary scores needed to advance in their careers. |
Do you have any advice for aspiring ESL teachers or for students looking to improve their English skills? |
To start with ESL teachers; I think it’s a very rewarding job, especially when you see the students’ progress. Regarding students who want to improve their English skills; it is a great opportunity to learn in a native English-speaking country where they can practice inside and outside of the school. |
