The School with a Heart

8 May 2018

English Language Academy, otherwise known as ELA Malta, is an English Language School which has been established for 31 years. In fact, 2019 marks our 31st anniversary and we are pleased to share with you some of the characteristics which make our school so unique.

First, our location is central. We are based Gzira, minutes on foot away from the sea, the restaurants and the bars, as well as the shopping centre. This is certainly something which our students appreciate especially since everywhere else in Malta is so easily accessible by public transport from where we are.

ELA is accredited by FELTOM and we are also one of the founding members of this organisation. We are the only TOEFL iBT Test centre in Malta and are proud of our excellent pass rates across the board for all examinations, also including IELTS and Cambridge exams.

What keeps our students coming to us year after year is the fact that they feel like they are part of our family. Students, to us, are more than just a number – we know their name, their preferences, their needs….they know that they can come to us at any time for whichever reason, and we are happy when they do. We try to be as flexible as we can in order to accommodate them each time.

Why do our students refer to us as The School with a heart?

Apart from all the reasons mentioned above, we also like to give something back to society from time to time. One of the ways we do this is through our Refugee programmes, during which we teach them the basics of the English language so as to help them integrate more into our community and even equip with the necessary linguistic tools so that they can eventually even get a job and start working.

Over and above our refugee programmes, we also organise regular bake sales at our school, and in such cases all the funds collected go to a charity which we all agree upon. Such lessons go beyond English because we feel that humanity and empathy are international languages that everybody can speak and everybody loves to communicate in.

These are just some of the reasons as to why we are so proud that we are still in this industry after three decades. Meeting people from around the world on a daily basis is only one of the perks our our job. In fact, in our 30 years of existence, we have welcomed thousands of students from over 70 nationalities at our school – and we can’t wait to welcome even more.
